“ I'm really passionate about pantomime because it is often the first introduction for a child to theatre, and if that child has a great

experience at a pantomime they will

continue to come year after year.”   -John Barrowman

Glasgow born John Scot Barrowman was born 11 March 1967 and has established  himself as a successful singer, dancer, writer, presenter and actor. John holds both British and American citizenship having moved to the USA in 1975.

John’s TV credits include Legends of Tomorrow, Central Park West, Desperate Housewives, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Arrow and our personal favourite Titans. He also has a wealth of presenting experience which includes shows such as The National Lottery, Small Animal  Hospital, Sing Your Face off and Tonight’s the Night. In 2018 John took part in the ITV series I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. John has one of the best reputations in Musical Theatre and regularly hosts his own concerts; he is surely one of the most in demand and busy all round performers.

In 2012 whilst appearing in Jack and the Beanstalk at the SECC John gave everyone a scare when during a matinee performance he took a fall from a love horse and had to be taken off to hospital. Speaking of the incident John said ‘’I just felt the horse jitter underneath me, then the back end lifted up and then the next thing I knew I was in the air. I landed hard in the middle of the stage. I got back on with the show, but the shooting pain just went through my legs and my back. I said to the audience "ladies and gentlemen, I have to stop the show, I need to be checked out. Then I went round the back and basically collapsed and I was put in a stretcher and strapped up. It was quite scary." John’s understudy and nephew Greg Barrowman stepped I and took over for the rest of that performance but John was back for the following day’s matinee.

John expressed his disappointment in 2015 when a five year run of appearing alongside the Krankies in panto in Glasgow came to an end when panto produces decided to replace John with former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff. John had fully expected to play Captain Hook in panto the following year at the venue and only discovered that he would not be returning when he was flicking through a brochure for the venue and made the discovery that the Hoff had already been signed up.  At the time John said ‘My theory is that ticket sales slowed a little and the bosses panicked and felt the line-up may have had it’s day, I told them not to panic and everything would be fine, but I think by that time the decision was made. I was upset.’

John took the 2015/16 season off before heading back to panto land the following season and returning to another previous panto haunt, the Birmingham Hippodrome, to star in Dick Whittington alongside an all-star cast. Talking about appearing in that production John said “I thought about it for a little while, last year I took a year off but Birmingham has wanted me back several times because I’ve done it twice before. The reason I decided to was the fact it was the right show that I wanted to do. I had to talk to my husband and my family because doing the show means I won’t be home for Christmas. And it also had to fit in with my TV contract in the States.”

2017 - John played Malcolm Merlyn across 3 connected TV shows -  Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash and Arrow.

2018 -  John took part in the ITV series I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, he finished in 3rd place. In the same year he provided the voice for Flex Dexter in the Children's TV show Fireman Sam and continued to appear in the TV series Arrow. He also appeared on Celebrity Juice, DC Daily, Good Morning Britain and Loose Women.

2019 - John appeared in the TV movie Glamerous and also reprised his role of Malcolm Merlyn in Arrow, John made several appearances as a guest presenter on the ITV daytime magazine show This Morning.

2020 - John joined the judging panel on  ITV's Dancing on Ice and made a triumphant return to Doctor Who playing Captain Jack after a ten year absence.

2021 - Allegations emerged in the press relating to John's inappropriate behaviour towards co-stars in the past at previous theatre shows and on the set of shows such as Doctor Who and Torchwood.  As a direct result John was dropped as a judge on the ITV series Dancing on Ice and removed from a Doctor Who/Torchwood exhibition event. John later dropped out of his planned panto appearance for the 2021/22 stating it was due to dates clashing with a proposed solo music tour.
